Polar bear safety and firearm handling including shooting training

This training enables polar professionals to plan and conduct tours in polar bear habitats. Facts on biology and behavior of polar bears are covered as well as prevention and safety measures during polar bear encounters, including personal safety techniques and the organization of groups.
In many Arctic regions it is mandatory to carry a large-caliber rifle in the field. To prevent the weapon itself from becoming a safety risk, the handling must be practiced. To avoid unnecessarily prolonging of the preparation time in the far north, we offer this preparation course including shooting training in Germany.

Glacier safety for polar regions, 2,5 days

Date: 23.-25.09.2026
(can be combined with First Aid Training 25.-27.09)

This training enables polar professionals to plan and conduct tours on glaciered terrain. In addition, the basics of mountain rescue are taught. The glacier training can be combined with a first aid training that follows the glacier course directly at the same location.

First aid extreme for polar regions, 4 days

This outdoor first aid course prepares participants for a stay in the Arctic and Antarctica. First aid and crisis management methods are practiced in realistic accident scenarios with expedition-experienced trainers. A special focus is placed on specific features and challenges of polar regions which have to be considered in first aid, such as long rescue routes, limited communication options, hypothermia, frostbite and longer care of patients.

Avalanche safety for polar regions, 2,5 days

This training enables polar professionals to plan and conduct tours in avalanche-prone terrain. The course provides theoretical and practical knowledge on assessing avalanche risks during tour planning and touring in polar terrain. Participants may bring either snow-shoes or touring-skis.

Traveling on sea ice and winter travel in Svalbard, 5 days

This training enables participants to plan and conduct winter tours in polar regions inculding traveling on sea ice. Participants may bring either snow-shoes, fjell-skis, or touring-skis. The training includes tour planning, orientation, navigation, understanding of Arctic weather, emergency training (communication, group organization, shelter, etc.), emergency equipment, camp planning and organization, reaction methods for sudden events (weather changes, whiteout, avalanches, changing terrain, river crossings, polar bear encounters, injured participants, etc.).
